A Conversation With Dixon Handshaw

RAW conversations with lovers of the print medium

Let’s call this an experiment. I’m putting this under the banner of “RAW conversations”. A simple audio podcast consisting of a casual conversation with people of our community. This first installment is a conversation with Dixon Handshaw who landed an unexpended exhibition with a Portfolio of work that surprised him. Let me know your thoughts and if you’d like more unscripted, unedited conversations with photographers who’s primary medium is print, their projects, ideas, exhibitions, etc.

Dixon Handshaw — Swamp

A few words from Dixon

I have two areas of concentration in NC now. One is at Mooresville Arts, a community arts center in Mooresville, NC where I am serving as board chair for two years. I also chair the Education Committee and teach classes several times a year.

I also teach various courses at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC. I am completing my third year there. Mooresville Arts has a Facebook page if you want to post something there.

I signed a contract with Image City Photography Gallery in Rochester, NY on December 20. I will have a small room all to myself. There is room for 18-20 images there. I will be able to fill it with prints from my Swamp portfolio. The gallery is a short walk from Eastman Museum and currently showcases some great photographers. I have been there twice to see the quality of work there. The show will run from September 28 to October 26, 2025.
