Similarly, I would also be interested in screw-post book recommendations. I would also be interested to learn more about your homemade linen hinges. What is your linen source material (painter’s canvas?), what do you use to affix the photo pages, and any methods from lessons-learned working with linen hinges you can share?

We'll have to do a followup post I think the reply would not be served well as just a comment... Until then the broad answer to the hinge question is any sort of linen type fabric (painter's canvas is probably too heavy), as you may see in the pictures, we use glue to affix, and setting up any sort of jig for consistent placement is a good idea. As for albums... like I mention there are a bunch of them offered by a myriad of vendors. Don't be shy about buying a good deal that is meant for something out, getting rid of included pages and replacing with your own. When searching you'll find many of the best looking are hand made (some people will make to order) and this is due to the reality that many people are perfectly capable of making them by yourself with some book board and various fabric, paper, or other materials... heck you could make the covers out of two slabs of anything and some flexible connecting material. Don't worry we'll be following up on a lot of this down the road.

One thing I really miss are the Dane Creek Folio Covers that were made by a Washington State photographer, Neil Enns. They were high grade medium weight manilla covers that were scored for easy folding and had a cut out for a cut image to show through. They would easily hold ten letter size prints and were perfect for small portfolios that could either be sold or gifted. Alas, he stopped producing these five or so years ago and there is nothing to be found that replaces it.

Alan, we have a few of these in our archive. I'd offer you one or two, but we use them in workhops as examples for people to consider. I agree that they are (or were) perfect for small portfolios and gifts.

Hmmm, maybe we should make something???

https://www.johnpaulcaponigro.com/blog/8150/dane-creek-folio-covers-10-off/ has a picture of the folio. I'll have to see if I have one left. Neil just has a website and I don't know if he has a template for the covers.

can you recommend a good quality screw post book to get started with?
