Really solid breakdown on the wedge-shaped relationship between depth and plane of focus. I'd been intuitively using this in macro work without naming it properly. The point about large format making this immediately obvious is spot on, though it took me way too long to realize the same priciples carry over even with locked planes on modern cameras.

Have played with this delightful phenomenon forever .. shootin ‘the printed page, monuments & inscriptions, LCD Screens, & even motion picture scenarios, product work .. why not show it pushed to the max - as fundamental Documentary solution ?

Full Disclosure - got about 1 or 2 likes via Notes - doing so to illuminate Fins or No Fins when snorkelling endangered reef shallows .. Could do so via Page Layout - but would be far more ‘sterile than ‘dynamic & instinctive ‘docu shooting solutions.. same re excerpts of Literature or reference material .. non ?

You might have noticed I attempt to make compositions interesting of things here with what is/is not in plane of focus.. I hope I am successful here and there.

Such shots speak to me fluently - it’s become obvious to me when lazy .. or ‘just grabbin a reference / reminder (will appear randomly - later while trying to catch up on daily ‘shootin & screen cappin like a boss - like a baleen whale does plankton

Your stuff is rooted in Service Bureau 24/7 ‘pro - & why I can speak yer language .. you speak very much of my languages or even patois .. I has a Post here - right on Topic but with some habanera 🌶️ .. have oft mentioned how the entire ‘Package came together ! I was so enchanted & refreshed by the photographic approach & subsequent Publishing

Due for a Turn in ‘the hero slot of my Site - will ‘Note it & tag you - Son of a Southern Chef ..

psst - have spent many many hours with motion camera & still image files from Client Sector Archives - Transportation for example - Airline - thus Air Canada - almost 50 years of photos & motion picture .. & at mebbe three hun per hour of my budget recorded to Broadcast Video Standards & Tape - we crossed path many times .. were pals haha - still fly them too eh ! All that stuff is desktop & likely AI too

Have never focus stacked in my life - & most certainly - never will ..

Carried Reciprocity Tables when shooting Large Format Stills like I have Tidal Tables when Snorkelling walk in reefs or had Ballistics Tables when ‘sighting in’ Rifles & had a Tape Measure when rolling Film on set as DOP in case my clapper loader somehow had lost hers or his 🦎🏴‍☠️🍁
