It may sound odd, but I propose that every photographer who makes his/her own prints, creates holiday cards, or makes books from their images and prints might want to have a simple folding board ready in their workspace.

What Are Folding Boards?

Simply put, a folding board allows the user (that would be you... and me) to make an accurate fold in a sheet of paper; a repeatable, exacting, clean fold. This is a real work saver when you have multiple sheets to fold, one after another, such as when printing greeting/holiday cards.

If you plan to create your own stitched photo book (more on that topic in later DIYs), then a folding board is essential in creating a book where the papers are properly aligned; a true time saver.

A folding board is typically made out of some wood scraps and a melamine surfaced board, but other smooth surfaces can suffice, including a varnished or wood waxed surface.
