How long has it been since you've fired up your printer? Leaving printers dormant for a long time is a bad idea. Nozzles get clogged, ink dries up, all sorts of horrible things happen. This results in really lousy prints. Consider making a good looking print at regular intervals. If you've not made a print in a while, going through a couple of cleaning cycles and getting things working well is something you just have to do. So do it for yourself, for your printer and for the contest!

#2 Your Best Work Deserves To Be Printed

Ansel Adams said; The negative is the equivalent of the composer's score, and the print the performance. In your case the negative is one of those RAW files you've never done anything with, sadly laying around your hard-drive.

Actually committing to the time, effort and cost a print helps narrow down what your best photographs are. It literally elevates your best work when committing it to a physical reality rather than letting it disappear into the morass of Instagram or Facebook, never to be seen again.

Before you submit anything to the exhibition, take the opportunity to ask others to help you decide on what you submit. Nobody wants to look at dozens, hundreds, or thousands of photos on your iPhone. You'll be surprised at how open just about everyone is to looking at 10 or 15 prints to help you decide what to submit to an exhibition.

#4 A Great Way To Dispose Of Prints

We all have stacks of prints we've made just laying around. I certainly do. Why not revisit a few and submit them? What's the worst thing that can happen? At the very least, we promise the judges will look at them, a far better fate than staying hidden in that pile.
